The Department of English at Carnegie Mellon is seeking 1, perhaps 2, candidates for the position of Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor to teach courses in the university’s First-Year Writing Program.  The Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor position is a nine-month, renewable, non-tenure-track position.

Candidates will be encouraged to contribute and collaborate with leading experts working at the intersection of writing pedagogy and technology enhanced learning. The teaching load is 3-3, possibly 3-2 if other research or service opportunities emerge.

Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Rhetoric and Composition or a closely related field. Previous experience (3-5 years) with teaching college writing and evidence of excellence in teaching required. Candidates must be able to give evidence of effective teaching, instructional design, and professional service; must demonstrate a willingness to participate in local, regional, and/or national professional development and have a strong interest in general education instruction, assessment, and program initiatives.  We especially welcome applicants who have experience with teaching one or more of the following:  first-year writing, argument, writing in the disciplines, or technical writing.
