The Mattress Factory was founded in 1977, by artists, to support artists working in residence to create site-specific installations. Since then, the museum has presented and commissioned new installation and performance works by more than 750 artists. The museum supports established and emerging artists through a residency program that provides leadership, guidance, resources and opportunities to create artwork that is unconventional, challenging and thought-provoking. Position Overview

The Mattress Factory Education Department seeks a Mini-Factory Coordinator to plan, oversee and facilitate the Mini-Factory program for early childhood learners ages 3 to 5 and their parents or caregivers. The Mini-Factory Coordinator is responsible for building and sustaining community relationships and projects. Mini-Factory programs focus on a variety of themes and installations where participants enjoy story time and work on a collaborative hands-on project.

Mini-Factory is a mobile, adaptable pop-up space that students help to build and then use to explore new ideas and concepts. This is a part-time position and some weekend hours are required.

Responsibilities:

• Develop relationships with community contacts and families;

• Plan thoughtful early childhood learning projects that relate to the Mattress Factory and our educational mission; • Document projects and plans and add them to the online Toolkit;

• Lead bi-weekly (every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month) Mini-Factory programming and organize community outreach for the program;

• Evaluate and look for ways to improve, change and develop the program;

• Plan and lead a week long half-day Mini-Factory Camp during June of 2018.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

• Must have PA Child Abuse and FBI Clearances;

• Must pass Criminal Record check; • Must have experience with early childhood learners and families;

• Knowledge of early childhood literacy preferred;

• Comfort teaching contemporary art, artists and related ideas;

• Knowledge of a variety of artistic media and willingness to learn and explore new concepts;

• Organized but flexible in the face of challenges.
