Organization Overview
The Mattress Factory was founded in 1977, by artists, to support artists working in
residence to create site-specific installations. Since then, the museum has presented and
commissioned new installation and performance works by more than 750 artists. The
museum supports established and emerging artists through a residency program that
provides leadership, guidance, resources and opportunities to create artwork that is

Position Overview
The Mattress Factory seeks a Marketing Assistant to support the museum’s marketing,
advertising and communications strategies and activities. They work closely with the
Development Office and report to the Marketing + Communications Manager.

Day-to-day responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Managing digital and social media platforms to engage target audiences and
support the implementation of marketing and communications strategies;
• Working collaboratively with other museum staff to research, develop and
publish web content including blog, social media and email communications;
• Managing the museum’s website, with an emphasis on ensuring accurate and
engaging content;
• Maintaining an editorial calendar for web, email and social media content;
• Copywriting for print and digital materials;
• Filing and maintaining physical and digital press clipping archives;
• Studying application updates and emerging marketing opportunities;
• Maintaining brand standards in all print and digital materials;
• Participating in creative planning and brainstorming meetings, while actively
contributing ideas and strategies for expanding awareness and generating online
contributions;
• Managing special projects and handling other duties as needed.

 

Knowledge and Experience Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts Management, Communications, Marketing or a related
field; or equivalent work experience;
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in using social media to promote
organizations or brands;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Working knowledge of SEO best practices and analytics;
• Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team;
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and Mailchimp;
• Experience with a non-profit organization is preferred.
